Amamikiyo, the god of the Ryukyu creation myth, is said to have created this island first when she descended from heaven; it is said to be the birthplace of grains and is sometimes called the island of gods. Mystical festivals are still held in their original form, and this island has gained attention as being important in the context of folklore.
