IZENA ISLAND Mekaru house

This house belongs to the Mekaru family, descendants of the uncle of Sho En, the founder of the second house of Sho; this family served as magistrates for generations. Even among buildings built in the Ryukyu style that avoided being damaged by war, this one has been particularly well preserved, and it is the only residence belonging to a high-ranking family in the village that has been designated as an important national cultural asset.
