This mausoleum was built around 1501, during the era of rule by the royal line of the second Sho dynasty, by the third generation ruler, king Shin Sho. In December of 2000, it was designated as a world heritage site under the name "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu."
