Gongen shrine was built in the style of the Rinzai school Myoshin temple in Ishigaki city, Ishigaki, and accompanies two guardian statues. The temple was built in 1614 at the behest of the Satsuma domain. It was the first temple in Yaeyama, and the two guardian statues that stand on either side of the mountain gate are the oldest wooden statues in Okinawa.
